Remember that wise lady I told you about yesterday? I forgot to tell you that when her husband lost his job she decided to learn how to can their own food. She set about learning practical skills that helped them get through the crisis. She did not have the ability to go out and purchase a lot of stuff. But she used her time and energy and brain, which she could use without money. Now she has learned skills that may be priceless depending on what the future holds for our nation. She is more equipped to face struggles, and her confidence in being able to conquer whatever disaster may come her way has been strengthened.
This wise lady’s children are also no doubt more prepared to face a crisis. They have seen it working firsthand in their own home, and it gives them a great advantage.
With a mentality like that, it is no wonder they were helping other people rather than needing to be helped, even during a very trying situation. What is your mentality? Do you take hold and make things happen with what God has given you, giving energy to others? Or are you an energy-taker who demands that others who are more “fortunate” must get you out of your troubles when they come? Our mentality can make the difference between success and failure in a survival situation.
